Here is the English translation: Rights Watch Sees Doha Meeting as an Important Opportunity for Afghan Women
Bayan News – Coinciding with the upcoming third Doha meeting, Human Rights Watch sees this meeting as an important opportunity to support Afghan women and girls.
This human rights organization stated in its daily report on Tuesday (June 11) that the Doha meeting should stand with women and prevent anything that could downplay the serious human rights crisis or lend legitimacy to the Taliban.
The organization said that Afghan women have a clear position on what needs to be done – that the international community must hold the Taliban accountable for their crimes against women and girls.
Countries should also not give the Taliban a seat at the United Nations or invite them to UN meetings.
The Human Rights Watch report stated that “No one should lift sanctions on the regime until there is verified improvement in human rights, especially women’s rights.”
The organization added that the situation of Afghan women is the most serious women’s rights crisis in the world, condemned by international experts as “gender apartheid”.
The organization said that the absence of girls and women from secondary and higher education is a disaster and a blow to the entire country.
However, the United Nations has invited human rights organizations and special country representatives for Afghanistan to the Doha meeting.
According to statements by UN officials, the issues of human rights and women’s rights are among the most important agenda items for discussion at the Doha meeting.
