Taliban Leader Holds Meeting with Senior Security Officials

Bayan News – Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman for the Taliban, says that Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban, held a meeting with the Defense Minister, Interior Minister, and the National Security Director in Kandahar.

Mujahid wrote on the X platform on Monday, July 15th: “In this meeting, the acting Defense Minister Mawlawi Yaqoob Mujahid, the acting Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, the General Director of Intelligence Mullah Abdul Haq Wasiq, and several other high-ranking officials participated.”

The Taliban spokesman further wrote that in this meeting, the heads of the security agencies briefed the Taliban leader on the progress and actions taken in security matters.

He added that in this meeting, the security issues of Afghanistan were discussed, and recommendations were given to the senior security officials to solve the problems.

However, Mujahid did not provide details about the security challenges in the country.

This meeting in Kandahar comes after the UN Security Council’s Sanctions Committee, in a recent report, referred to the financial challenges facing the Taliban’s security institutions.

The UN Monitoring Committee wrote that countries, given the significant internal challenges and humanitarian needs in Afghanistan, have expressed concerns about the disproportionate spending of the Taliban on security and their armed forces, and raised the question of whether this expenditure is well-aligned with the requirements of counterterrorism.
