U.S. asks Turkey to convince Iran to reduce tensions
Bayan News – Jeff Flake, the U.S. ambassador to Turkey, announced on Tuesday (August 13) that the United States has asked Ankara and other allies who have good relations with Iran to persuade Tehran to reduce tensions in the Middle East.
According to the report by Al-Arabiya, the U.S. ambassador’s remarks come as the region is preparing for potential retaliatory attacks by Iran and its allies against Israel.
Two weeks ago, Iran and its allies promised harsh revenge against Israel after the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’ political office in Tehran, and Fawaz Shaker, one of Hezbollah’s prominent commanders in southern Lebanon.
On the other hand, John Kirby, a spokesman for the White House National Security Council, said in a press conference that U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has made changes to the position of U.S. forces in the region.
He added that the United States must be prepared for potential “major attacks” from Iran.
Kirby emphasized that President Joe Biden has discussed efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East and the ceasefire in Gaza with the leaders of France, Germany, Italy and Britain.
