Taliban Minister of Education: Questions Regarding Girls’ Education are Suspended

Bayan News – Nadamohammad Nadim, the Taliban’s Minister of Higher Education, stated at a press conference in Kabul on Sunday (August 25) that inquiries about the education of girls are suspended until further notice.

In the press conference, this Taliban official apparently faced questions from reporters regarding the reopening of girls’ schools and their education. Nadim told reporters, “In this matter, the short answer is that just as education is suspended until further notice, questions about it are also suspended until further notice.”

The Taliban’s Minister of Higher Education clearly stated that, so far, the conditions and environment for reopening schools and universities for girls have not been facilitated.

Mr. Nadim added that the world is also focused on the issue of girls’ education, but this has raised doubts for him.

This Taliban official also emphasized that their political opponents have elevated the issue of girls’ education to a level of obligation. “The real talk is that at such times, when the Day of Women comes, our opponents organize a gathering and elevate this to a level of obligation, claiming that there is great oppression against the people of Afghanistan… No one should self-appoint themselves as a religious figure on these matters and issue rulings and resolutions for them.”

This is happening while many Islamic countries, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, have questioned the ban on girls’ education.

Since their rise to power in Kabul, the Taliban have closed schools and universities to female students.
