Australia: We Support the Human Rights of Women and Girls in Afghanistan

Bayan News – As reactions continue regarding the promulgation of the Taliban’s law on Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs has described the enactment of this law as an attempt to silence the voices of Afghan women.

Penny Wong, the Foreign Minister of Australia, wrote on the X platform on Sunday (August 25) that her country condemns the Taliban’s efforts to silence the voices of Afghan women and girls.

The Australian Foreign Minister stated: “We stand with the women and girls of Afghanistan and support their human rights.”

The promulgation of the law on Promotion of Virtue by the Taliban leader has elicited national and international reactions.

The United Nations, the United States, the European Union, and several other countries have described this action by the Taliban as a historic setback for Afghanistan.

The Taliban’s law on Promotion of Virtue has been enacted with one chapter, one preamble, and 35 articles.
