Sullivan: Concerned about escalation of tensions in the Middle East
Bayan News – Jake Sullivan, the White House National Security Advisor, announced on Sunday evening (August 25) that the United States is concerned about the escalation of conflict in the Middle East and its potential to turn into a broader war.
According to Reuters, Sullivan said during a press conference in Halifax, Canada, that the Biden administration is in constant contact with Israel regarding the current situation of the conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Hezbollah’s major attack
Sullivan’s comments come after Israel announced early on Sunday that it had predicted a “major attack” by Hezbollah that was planned for the early morning and thwarted it with a preemptive strike.
Israel also threatened to bombard all of Lebanon’s areas that pose a threat to Tel Aviv.
However, Hezbollah in Lebanon denied that Israel had foiled its attack and said that it had targeted at least eleven Israeli military posts with missile and drone attacks.
Hezbollah also claimed that it primarily targeted a military intelligence base near Tel Aviv with drones and Katyusha rockets.
