Taliban publicly punish accused individuals simultaneously in three provinces of Afghanistan

Bayan News – The Taliban’s Supreme Court announced on Saturday (September 7) that several accused individuals were publicly punished in the provinces of Ghor, Maidan Wardak, and Bamiyan.

According to the announcement from the Taliban Supreme Court, seven individuals, including four men and three women, were punished in a stadium in Ghor province in the presence of the public.

The Taliban Supreme Court stated that, based on the decision of the court in Ghor province, seven individuals were whipped for charges of fleeing their homes, invasion of privacy, and adultery in the center of the province.

However, the Supreme Court removed this announcement shortly after it was published.

The announcement from the Taliban Supreme Court indicated that the accused were sentenced to between 29 and 39 lashes and prison terms ranging from four months to four years.

According to the court’s announcement, among the accused was one woman who was punished with 29 lashes and sentenced to four months in prison.

Today, the Taliban also reported the execution of lashings for four individuals in the provinces of Bamiyan and Maidan Wardak.

The current regime typically punishes individuals accused of “fleeing their homes, extramarital sexual relations (adultery), and same-sex relations (sodomy)” with lashes.

The execution of public lashings by the Taliban occurs amidst widespread condemnation from human rights organizations, which consider such punishments to be against international law and human dignity, calling for an end to them.

However, the Taliban government has continually dismissed these protests, asserting that the issue of human rights and women’s rights is an internal matter for Afghanistan.
