2024 Global Hunger Index Report; Afghanistan Falls Two Ranks into Poverty
Bayan News – The recently released Global Hunger Index (GHI) report shows that poverty and hunger in Afghanistan have worsened compared to the previous year.
In this index, Afghanistan is categorized among the 15 countries with severe hunger.
The 2024 report, which assesses hunger levels in 128 countries, has given Afghanistan a score of 30.8.
With this score, Afghanistan ranks 116th, dropping two places compared to last year when it ranked 114th.
Countries scoring between 20 and 34.9 are rated as “serious” but not yet at the “warning” level, and Afghanistan is classified as being in a “serious” state of hunger.
The severity of hunger in Afghanistan has been evaluated based on indicators such as child mortality, malnutrition, and stunted growth in children caused by hunger.
According to the report, 30.4% of Afghanistan’s population suffers from malnutrition.
Additionally, 5.8% of children in Afghanistan die before the age of five.
The report also shows that 44.6% of children under the age of five have stunted growth due to chronic malnutrition.
The Global Hunger Index is a tool used to measure and track the severity of hunger worldwide, and its reports are prepared by the non-governmental organizations “Concern Worldwide” and “Welthungerhilfe.”
