Two-Month Ultimatum from the Interim Government to Private Television Channels; Convert Your Broadcasts to Audio

Bayan News – Reports indicate that the interim government has given all private television channels a two-month deadline to convert their broadcasts to audio-only, avoiding the broadcast of live visual content.

Sources associated with Afghan media stated on Monday, October 28, that this decision was made during a recent meeting between senior Taliban officials and heads of private television channels in Kandahar province. According to the information provided, this meeting took place last week.

Sources in Kabul noted that, in this meeting, interim government officials gave media managers a two-month period to switch to audio-only broadcasts. According to published reports, the Taliban told private media representatives that those who do not comply with this directive will have to halt their broadcasts.

Central officials from the interim government have not commented officially on this news. This report comes as the interim government recently suspended television broadcasts in ten Afghan provinces under a new “Promotion of Virtue” law.
