Tribal Clashes in Pakistan; At least 50 Killed and Injured in Protests

Bayan News – Pakistani media reports indicate that following protests in the Kurram region of the country, 15 people have been killed and more than 30 others injured.

This comes after a deadly attack on Shia Muslims in the Kurram district near the Afghanistan border, where over 100 people were killed and dozens more injured. Following this deadly event, thousands of people took to the streets on Friday (November 22) demanding the identification of those responsible for the incident.

Local officials in the Kurram district have stated that these protests have led to deadly violence.

Ali Wazir, a local official, added, “Intense gunfire between two tribal groups has continued since last night. So far, about 15 people from both sides have been killed and more than 30 others have been injured.”

Due to the escalating violence, local authorities have imposed travel and transport restrictions, and some schools and businesses in tense areas have been closed.

Javedullah Mahsud, a local official, announced that efforts are underway to form a tribal assembly to mediate and reduce the violence.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time tribal violence in this border region has led to casualties. In early July, another conflict over land ownership resulted in 43 deaths and 180 injuries.
