Chinese Diplomat Meets Senior Officials of Afghanistan’s Interim Taliban Government

Bayan News – You Xiaoyong, China’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, arrived in Kabul on Saturday, November 23, after his visit to Pakistan, and met with senior officials of the Taliban’s interim government, including the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense.

According to a statement from the office of the Deputy Political Prime Minister of the interim government, the Chinese envoy emphasized that his country seeks to strengthen Afghanistan’s economy, expand relations, and enhance cooperation. He also noted that Beijing supports Kabul’s position in international forums and is interested in maintaining long-term relations with Afghanistan.

The Chinese representative further stressed the importance of improving relations and fostering understanding between Afghanistan, Pakistan, and China. He highlighted progress made in Afghanistan over the past three years.

During the meeting, the Taliban’s Deputy Political Prime Minister reassured the Chinese envoy that Afghanistan’s current regime has guaranteed all neighbors and the international community that its territory will not pose a threat to anyone. He stated that Afghanistan has upheld this commitment over the past three years. The official added that Afghanistan is emerging from years of war and is working to revive its national economy and develop regional cooperation. He emphasized that Kabul is taking steps toward economic stability.

On the following day, the Chinese envoy met with the Taliban’s Minister of Defense to discuss economic cooperation, strengthening bilateral relations, border issues, investments, and other topics. The Taliban Defense Minister described China as a key neighbor and partner for the Afghan people and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to collaboration in shared areas of interest.

This visit by the Chinese diplomat comes amidst ongoing tensions between the Afghan Taliban and Pakistan over the past three years, with these tensions showing no signs of easing. During this period, Taliban and Pakistani border forces have repeatedly engaged in military clashes, resulting in significant casualties on both sides.
