Iran to Host the 28th Meeting of Foreign Ministers of ECO Member Countries
Bayan News – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran has announced that next week, the 28th meeting of the foreign ministers of the member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) will be held in Mashhad.
Ismail Baghai, spokesperson for the ministry, said in a press conference on Sunday (November 24) that the ministers and senior officials from the ECO member countries, along with directors of regional specialized organizations and secretaries-general of some multilateral economic organizations, will participate in the meeting.
Afghanistan, a member of this organization, has been absent from the past three meetings, which were held without Afghan representatives.
Baghai added, “The Economic Cooperation Organization is one of the oldest regional economic cooperation arrangements among developing countries, with the goal of promoting regional economic development.”
The spokesperson did not clarify whether an invitation has been extended to the caretaker government of Afghanistan.
Iran is holding the rotating presidency of the ECO for the year 2024.
