OCHA: The Voices of Women and Girls Are Silenced by the Taliban Interim Government

Bayan News – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has stated, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, that the voices of women and girls in Afghanistan are being silenced by the interim Taliban government, and their rights are being denied.

On Tuesday (November 26), OCHA published a message on the platform X, stating that the restrictions against women and girls in Afghanistan have increased, and their rights are becoming more vulnerable with each passing day.

OCHA, as part of the 16-day campaign to combat violence against women, called for unity in defending the rights of Afghan women and girls.

This comes as the interim government, following its formation in Kabul, took initial steps to marginalize women and girls from public life.

Over the past three years, despite the emphasis from countries and international organizations on respecting the rights of women and girls, the Taliban government has intensified its restrictions.

However, officials of the interim government have consistently responded to the concerns of the international community by stating that women’s rights are being protected according to Islamic Sharia law.

Furthermore, the current government in Kabul has described issues related to Afghan women and girls as internal matters, urging countries and international organizations not to interfere in these affairs.
