UNICEF-Supported Educational Classes Closed in Bamyan
Bayan News – Local sources in Bamyan province report that local Taliban authorities have shut down educational classes supported by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Sources told Afghanistan-related media on Wednesday (November 27) that these educational classes, funded by UNICEF, were established by the “Afghan Development” and “Development and Initiative for the Nation” organizations for girls who had dropped out of school and those below sixth grade.
According to the information provided, these classes were closed by the head of education in Bamyan. The reason for this action remains unclear, and local authorities have not provided any explanation.
Meanwhile, local authorities recently closed UNICEF-supported classes and those organized by the Norwegian Refugee Council in Uruzgan province. Similarly, educational classes organized by aid organizations had previously been shut down in Helmand and Kandahar provinces.
A source in Kandahar stated that the reason for the closures was the teaching of subjects deemed to be against the Taliban’s guidelines in these educational programs.
Currently, in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, women and girls are not allowed to pursue education or schooling.
