Iranian Official: Schools Have Reached Capacity for Educating Afghan Families’ Children
Bayan News – Nader Yarahmadi, head of the Center for Foreign Nationals and Migrants Affairs at Iran’s Ministry of Interior, has announced that there is no longer capacity to accept and enroll the children of Afghan migrant families in the schools of the Islamic Republic.
According to Iranian media, this official stated during a meeting with Yumiko Ishikawa Takashima, head of the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) office, that the organization should provide mobile phones and tablets to implement a virtual education plan for Afghan students.
Yarahmadi further noted that Iran needs special support from the UNHCR’s office to increase financial resources for advancing health sector projects and to expand the number of individuals covered by health insurance.
According to the Iranian official, the UNHCR must increase its financial support for Afghan migrants.
However, Iranian media reported that the head of the UNHCR office welcomed the proposal from Iran’s Ministry of Interior.
This plan comes at a time when, a few months ago, most schools in the Islamic Republic refused to enroll Afghan students, a practice that continues to this day.
