UN Report: Over 21 Million Women and Girls in Afghanistan Deprived of Their Fundamental Rights
Bayan News – The United Nations has released a report stating that 21.4 million women and girls in present-day Afghanistan are deprived of their fundamental and human rights.
The report, published on Monday, December 9, highlights that women and girls are facing violations of their basic rights in social, economic, and political spheres.
According to the UN report, Afghan women and girls are grappling with urgent humanitarian and safety needs under the current restrictions, necessitating sustained support from the international community.
The report specifically addresses education, employment, and discriminatory practices, emphasizing that decrees issued by the interim government in 2022 and 2023 have prohibited women from working in government institutions and non-governmental organizations.
The report also notes that women and girls have been denied access to education, which has created serious challenges for humanitarian aid and relief efforts. Meanwhile, these restrictions continue to be implemented and intensified.
The UN report comes at a time when the interim government has recently banned women and girls from accessing medical institutions.
