Pakistani Airstrikes in Afghanistan; Khalilzad: The Taliban and Pakistan Must Reach an Agreement
Bayan News – Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. envoy for Afghan peace, has reacted to Pakistani airstrikes in Paktika and Khost provinces, stating that the interim government and Pakistan must resolve their issues through an agreement.
In a post on Platform X, Khalilzad referred to the visit of Pakistan’s special envoy to Kabul and wrote: “Will General Munir (the army chief) allow him to initiate talks with the Taliban?”
He further wrote: “Instead of engaging in conflict, the two countries should reach an agreement whereby neither allows their territory to be used by individuals or groups to threaten the other’s security, and both must adhere to this agreement.”
Khalilzad also noted that the interim government might respond to the Pakistani military’s airstrikes.
Last night, the Pakistani military launched airstrikes in parts of Paktika and Khost provinces, reportedly targeting hideouts of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) fighters.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Defense reacted to the airstrikes, calling them an infringement on Afghan sovereignty and emphasizing that Pakistan’s unilateral actions will not go unanswered.
