Bayan News – Iran’s Interior Minister, Ahmad Vahidi, says his country hosts more than five million Afghan immigrants and they do not pose a security challenge to Iran.
Vahidi made these remarks in an interview with Isna news agency on Thursday (July 12).
He added that the exact number of immigrants in Iran is unknown, but security agencies have serious oversight of Afghan immigrants and need a stronger structure for more supervision.
According to him, the creation of a national migration organization, which is currently on the agenda of the Iranian parliament, will be approved.
Iran’s interior minister has also said in response to whether this number of immigrants may pose a security challenge to Iran, “No, of course, there may be security problems in any population, but generally, intelligence agencies have not reported such an issue to us, and if there is a report, it will be addressed and dealt with.”
However, after the establishment of the Islamic Emirate, the process of Afghan migration to neighboring countries, including Iran, has increased, and most of these migrations are illegal.
According to Iranian officials, in the past two years, about two million people have entered Iran.
