Interim government forces suppress protest by female makeup artists
Bayan News – A number of female makeup artists in Kabul protested against the ban on women’s beauty salons on Thursday (July 19), but the protest was suppressed by the security forces of the interim government.
The makeup artists, who sent video tapes to Bayan News, said that the government forces had used aerial shots to disperse their protest.
They also said that some of the female makeup artists had been arrested and that efforts were being made to arrest more of them.
The protest, which took place in the Shahr-e-Naw area of Kabul, saw the makeup artists chanting slogans such as “bread, work, and justice.”
This protest comes as the Kabul interim government continues to impose restrictions on women and girls, including a ban on women’s beauty salons across Afghanistan.
The Kabul Municipality has also notified all women’s beauty salons that if they do not stop their activities by the designated date, legal action will be taken against them.
