Bayan News – Officials of the interim government in Kabul have requested Britain’s cooperation in treating Afghan children with heart defects.
Mullah Nooriddin Tarabi, Deputy of the Red Crescent, made this demand during a meeting with Robert Dixon, the UK Representative for Afghanistan, held in Doha, the capital of Qatar. The UK representative has also pledged cooperation with the Islamic Emirate.
Last year, approximately 24,000 Afghan children were diagnosed with heart defects, of which 12,500 have received treatment with the assistance of international organizations.
According to reports, there are still 11,000 children with heart defects awaiting treatment, and 1,000 have lost their lives.
Following the Taliban’s recapture of Afghanistan, except for a few countries such as Iran and China, no other country has an active embassy in Kabul. Over the past two years, several countries have utilized Doha as their diplomatic hub for engaging with the Taliban.
