Death of 300 People in a Devastating Earthquake in Morocco

Bayan News – International media have reported that around 300 people have lost their lives and nearly 200 others have been injured following a major earthquake in Morocco.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.2 on the Richter scale, occurred on Friday night (September 8) in a mountainous region located 70 kilometers southwest of Morocco.

The Ministry of Interior of the country has announced that the earthquake has affected the provinces of Al Haouz, Ouarzazate, Marrakech, Azilal, Chichaoua, and Taroudant.

It is reported that numerous buildings have been destroyed as a result of this earthquake, and people in various cities of Morocco have evacuated their homes onto the streets during the night.

According to Reuters, residents of Marrakech, the closest major city to the epicenter of the earthquake, have stated that some buildings in this historic city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, have collapsed.

It should be noted that this earthquake is the largest earthquake since 2004 AD, when approximately 600 people lost their lives.
