Afghanistan-Uzbekistan Agreement: Hairatan Trade Port in Northern Afghanistan to Remain Open 24/7
Bayan News – The caretaker government of Kabul and the government of Uzbekistan have agreed to keep the Hairatan port in northern Afghanistan open 24 hours a day starting from the beginning of November this year in order to expedite the transfer of commercial goods between the two countries.
This agreement was reached today, Monday (October 30), during talks between Nooriddin Azizi, the Minister of Industry and Commerce of Afghanistan, and the Uzbek delegation that visited Kabul.
Simultaneously, a joint investment opportunities session between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan was held today in Kabul, with the participation of the Uzbek delegation and the private sectors of both countries, where the two sides discussed the development of trade, transit, and the strengthening of economic relations.
According to a newsletter from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, quoting Mr. Azizi, the two countries have reached an agreement regarding visa issuance for traders and drivers, facilitating trade transactions between the two countries worth over $3 billion, and the 24/7 operation of the Hairatan trade port.
On the other hand, Jamshid Khoja Yuf, the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, considered Afghanistan a good neighbor and its people, stating that the growth of Afghanistan would be the growth of Uzbekistan.
He further stated that peace and stability in Afghanistan are synonymous with stability in the region.
