UNAMA: Afghan Interim Government Should Embrace Human Rights Commitments

Rosentbayeva, the United Nations Special Representative in Afghanistan and head of UNAMA, on the occasion of World Human Rights Day, has called on the Kabul Interim Government to embrace human rights commitments as the foundation for a stable and peaceful future in Afghanistan.

The head of UNAMA stated today, Monday (December,10) that human rights commitments should be considered as the cornerstone of a stable, peaceful, and prosperous future for Afghanistan and should be supported.

She made these remarks on the occasion of World Human Rights Day and emphasized that the authorities of the Kabul Interim Government have a greater responsibility towards all the people of Afghanistan to promote and protect human rights, especially the rights of women and girls.

The head of the United Nations Deputy Office in Kabul also reiterated that human rights must be preserved to ensure coherence and stability in Afghanistan.

However, the authorities of the Kabul Interim Government have consistently stated over the past two years that they are committed to international laws that are not in conflict with Islamic Sharia.

At the same time, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan considers human rights as a political tool of Western countries.

Today, December 10th, is World Human Rights Day. Seventy-five years ago today, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted in Paris, the capital of France.

Afghanistan was among the countries that accepted this declaration in 1948.
