Bayan News – Hamid Karzai, the former President of Afghanistan, once again expressed hope that the educational opportunities for girls above the sixth grade would be provided in schools as soon as possible.
On Sunday, December 23rd, during a meeting with a group of prominent Shia elders in Kabul, he stressed that the progress and self-sufficiency of Afghanistan are dependent on the education of girls in schools.
According to a statement from Karzai’s press office, the former President of Afghanistan, in this meeting, continued to consider national consensus as the only way to ensure peace and lasting stability in the country.
For the past two years, the former President of Afghanistan has consistently emphasized the reopening of girls’ schools in Afghanistan during his public meetings, but his voice has not yielded significant results.
The Islamic Emirate, upon taking control of Afghanistan, restricted access to schools for girls above the sixth grade. Despite domestic and international pressures, they have not been willing to reopen the schools.
