The second special representatives meeting of countries for Afghanistan will be hosted by the United Nations
Bayan News – It is planned that in the near future, the second special representatives meeting of countries from around the world for Afghanistan will be hosted by the United Nations, focusing on the current situation in Afghanistan for discussion and examination.
Stephane Dujarric, the Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, added that this meeting will involve discussions in line with international consensus and the independent evaluation recommendations of the UN Special Coordinator for Afghanistan.
The UN official further stated that the mandate of the UN Special Coordinator for Afghanistan has been extended until the end of February of the current year.
On the Russian side, Dmitry Kabulov, the Special Representative of Russia for Afghanistan, confirmed this report to Russian media, stating that the special representatives meeting will be held under the auspices of the United Nations in the second half of this month.
According to Kabulov, the special representatives of the countries will share their perspectives on the current situation in Afghanistan.
He also emphasized the continuation of the Moscow format talks, stating that this format will continue in 2024, and the next meeting will be held in the autumn of this year.
The security, humanitarian, and economic crises in Afghanistan are considered among the most important concerns of the international community.
John Kirby, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategic Communications at the US National Security Council, added that ISIS still poses a serious threat to the people of Afghanistan and the region.
Kirby stated that assessing the quantitative and qualitative strength of ISIS is difficult, but this group continues to be a threat to Afghanistan and the region.
