U.S. expresses regret over attack on journalists’ gathering in Balkh province

US Special Representative for Afghanistan Peace Thomas West described the attack on journalists in Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province, as a terrorist and expressed regret over the incident.
He added in a tweet Sunday morning that the United States condemns continued and senseless acts of violence.
Westhas also made it clear that the United States believes in the Afghan people’s resilience to peace and their capacity to achieve a peaceful life.
This comes after three people were killed and 30 others were injured in an explosive attack on a gathering of journalists in Mazar-e-Sharif city.
The program, sponsored by local journalists by the Tebyan Cultural Center, was attended by about 25 local journalists.
At least 15 local journalists were injured in the blast.
A day after the incident, no group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.
