The reaction of the National Resistance Front to the restrictions on the mourning ceremonies of Ashura

Bayan News – In a statement released last night, the Front reacted to the restrictions on the mourning ceremonies of Imam Hussein’s martyrdom and called it the promotion and institutionalization of religious discrimination and inequality in the country.

The statement notes that peaceful coexistence of different religions, including Sunni and Shia Muslims, has a long history in Afghanistan. “Our Shia brothers and sisters have always held mourning ceremonies for Imam Hussein’s martyrdom without any restrictions, whether in mosques, private homes, or public places, and have been accompanied by the solidarity and support of the Sunni community.”

According to the Front, Imam Hussein (AS) and the message of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) are a role model for all Muslims, both Shia and Sunni, in the fight against oppression and inequality, and their uprising against the tyranny of the rulers of their time has been and will continue to be a source of inspiration for the brave people of Afghanistan who have repeatedly risen up against tyranny and arrogance in a Hussaini manner.

However, the Shia Ulema Council of Afghanistan, in an extraordinary meeting, asked the caretaker government of Kabul to lift the imposed restrictions. Following these protests, Kabul residents reported an increase in the number of mourning centers in various parts of the capital, and security of these centers was also ensured by security forces.

At the same time, the central government officials also reassured Shia Muslims during their visits to mourning centers that they can mourn in open spaces and that security has been fully guaranteed.
