Bayan News – “UN Security Council: Al-Qaeda is Hiring New Fighters under Taliban’s Supervision in Afghanistan, but the Taliban Denies the Claim”

The United Nations Security Council has claimed in a recent report that Al-Qaeda is engaging in covert activities under the supervision of the Taliban and is recruiting new fighters.

The 23-page report, released three days ago on July 25th, states that the Al-Qaeda network is being organized and has established training centers in the provinces of Kunar and Nuristan in Afghanistan.

The report also alleges that members of the Al-Qaeda network have infiltrated public offices in Afghanistan with the support of high-ranking Taliban officials.

According to the report, Al-Qaeda fighters are mostly engaged in covert activities in Afghanistan to support the Taliban’s narrative of adhering to agreements that prohibit the use of Afghan soil for terrorist purposes.

However, officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the Taliban) strongly reject this report.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Kabul interim government, said in a tweet on Friday, July 28th, that the UN Security Council’s report claiming that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is apparently coordinating with Al-Qaeda is not true.

He said, “There is no presence of Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, and the reports on this issue are incorrect.”

The spokesperson for the Kabul interim government also assured that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan will not allow anyone to use Afghan soil against the security of any other country.

Previously, the UN Security Council expressed concern in a similar report that Al-Qaeda was present in 15 provinces of Afghanistan.
