Resolve Journalists’ Problems through the Media Ombudsman Commission

Bayan News – Muhajir Farahi, the acting spokesperson of the Ministry of Information and Culture, suggests that the problems of journalists be resolved through the Media Ombudsman Commission in response to the detention of journalists.

He made these statements on Monday, August 20, during a press conference in Herat province, western Afghanistan.

The government official added that the Ministry of Information and Culture has the authority to intervene in the work processes of journalists and media outlets, and no other government entity has the right to interfere in journalists’ affairs apart from this ministry.

Farahi stated, “Without the Ministry of Information and Culture, no one else has the right to interfere in the work of the media, and if there are any problems, we have the Media Ombudsman Commission to address them.”

The acting spokesperson of the Ministry of Information and Culture further mentioned that the Mass Media Law has been prepared and is awaiting approval by the leader of the Islamic Emirate.

Mr. Farahi added, “We have finalized the Media Law and sent it to the center, and it will be enforceable after approval by the leader of the Islamic Emirate.”

These statements come at a time when in recent days, nine journalists from various provinces of Afghanistan have been detained.

It is reported that these journalists have been detained on charges of collaborating with exiled media outlets that oppose the policies of the Islamic Emirate.
