International Reactions to the Forced Expulsion of Afghans by the Pakistani Government

Bayan News – Simultaneous with the forced expulsion of Afghan migrants by the Pakistani government, several international organizations, in a joint statement, denounced this action by the Islamabad government as contrary to human rights values.

International migration organizations announced today, Saturday (October 7th), “The forced return of Afghan nationals can lead to severe human rights violations, including family separation and the expulsion of minors.”

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) expressed their readiness in the statement to cooperate with the Pakistani government in developing a mechanism for the registration and management of the migrant crisis, emphasizing that some may require international support.

These international bodies called on the Pakistani government to reconsider its decision and continue its support for vulnerable Afghans.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration have also urged other countries to suspend the forced return of Afghan citizens.

Afterwards, the Pakistani government made the decision to forcibly expel Afghans, claiming that Afghan nationals are involved in the insecurity of the country.

It is reported that over one million undocumented Afghan migrants live in Pakistan, and most of them fled after the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate.
