United Nations: Over 7,000 Pregnant Women in Herat Require Psychosocial and Social Support
Bayan News – In a recent report by the United Nations, it has been stated that following the consecutive earthquakes in the province of Herat in western Afghanistan, 7,500 pregnant women are in need of urgent psychosocial and social support.
The report indicates that most of these women have lost family members in the recent events.
It has also been reported that the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has requested $11.5 million to provide social services to the affected women in Herat.
Additionally, BBC Persian, citing a female doctor in Herat, has reported that some men refrained from harming injured or deceased women.
The report mentions Dr. Salma (pseudonym) as the first female doctor who has reached the affected areas to provide medical assistance to women.
Dr. Salma told BBC Persian, “I visited a village where Taliban members reside. Some men refrained from harming injured or deceased women.”
However, in the consecutive earthquakes in the province of Herat, approximately 1,300 people have lost their lives, with a majority of them being children and women.
