Concern of International Organizations about the Situation of Children in the Upcoming Winter

Bayan News – Several international organizations criticize the lack of willingness among donors and warn that the situation of children in Afghanistan will be concerning in the upcoming winter.

Corinna Fitzner, Executive Director of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Germany, stated to international media, “There are a few more weeks until the harsh winter in Afghanistan, a time when families will be forced to choose between heating their homes or providing food for their children.”

She explicitly expressed that the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan will be even more catastrophic than before.

According to United Nations statistics, more than 29 million people out of an approximate population of 40 million in the country require humanitarian assistance. Despite the ongoing hunger crisis in Afghanistan, relief organizations complain about the lack of budget provided by international donors.

Fitzner also mentioned that many people who have lost their homes due to recent earthquakes in Herat province still do not have shelter.
