UNAMA: Over $402 million needed for the reconstruction of earthquake-stricken areas of Herat
Bayan News – The deputy office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) announced on Thursday (February 21) that over $402.9 million is needed for the reconstruction of the basic infrastructure of the earthquake-stricken areas of Herat province.
The organization stated in a press release that UNAMA, the World Bank, the European Union, and the Asian Development Bank have jointly prepared and published an assessment report of the needs.
In October 2023, following an earthquake, in addition to hundreds of casualties, thousands of residential buildings in several districts of Herat province were destroyed.
The UNAMA assessment report indicates that this event caused $217 million in direct physical damage and an additional $78 million in other damages.
UNAMA stated that $402.9 million is needed to address the reconstruction of these areas.
