Guterres: Taliban Issued 50 Decrees Against Women and Girls

António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, stated in the 68th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women that the Taliban have issued 50 decrees to restrict women.

The UN Secretary-General mentioned in his speech on Monday (March 11) that these decrees severely oppress women and girls.

Guterres, referring to changes in the global order and the escalation of violence in the region, reminded that wars and crises have intensified worldwide, disproportionately affecting women and girls.

The session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women was held at the organization’s headquarters with the participation of over 100 high-level delegations.

Simultaneously with the ongoing restrictions imposed by the Taliban on women, criticism from the international community towards these Taliban policies has increased.

Representatives of some countries, especially the United States, have stated that they will not recognize the Taliban until they commit to human rights values and women’s rights.
