TikTok Fined €10 Million by the Italian Government
Bayan News – International media outlets have reported that the Italian Competition Authority has fined the social media network TikTok €10 million on charges of “negative effects on young people.”
According to Reuters, the Italian Competition Authority stated that the insufficient content moderation of this social network could harm young users. Based on the report, the Italian government considers TikTok’s performance in protecting children to be a failure.
The authority declared, “TikTok has been unsuccessful in implementing appropriate mechanisms to monitor the content published on its platform, especially in cases that may threaten the safety of underage and vulnerable individuals.”
However, a spokesperson stated in a statement, “We disagree with this decision.”
TikTok is one of the most popular Chinese applications in many countries worldwide.
Recently, the United States government has also decided to compel the owner of TikTok to sell the network.
