Three detained journalists presented to court in Khost
Bayan News – The Taliban’s Ministry for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has announced the presentation of three detained journalists to the provincial court.
The ministry stated in a newsletter yesterday that the detained journalists disregarded the warning issued by the department and committed a crime by broadcasting music and airing women’s voices on radio programs.
The three journalists, Ismail Saadat, Wahidullah Ma’soum, and Ehsanullah Tassal, were arrested by the Taliban four days ago in Khost.
Meanwhile, Amnesty International has called for the immediate release of these journalists and the cancellation of the order to suspend the broadcasts of Noor and Bria TV stations by the Taliban.
The human rights organization emphasized in a statement on Friday, April 26th, that no journalist should be imprisoned for their journalistic activities.
According to Amnesty International, since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, over half of Afghanistan’s media outlets have been shut down and two-thirds of the country’s journalists have left their positions.
