United Nations: Human Rights and Women a Key Priority at Third Doha Meeting

Bayan News – Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General, recently stated that the issue of human rights and women will be a key priority at the Third Doha meeting.

The UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson made this remark while noting that the UN’s high-level delegation had recently stated in its visit to Kabul that the purpose of the Third Doha meeting will be to discuss how to engage with the Taliban.

Concurrently, the Taliban have also announced that they are in the process of appointing representatives to participate in this meeting.

Dujarric said that the special representatives of countries for Afghanistan have been invited to attend the Doha meeting to create more “clarity and coherence” in the world’s approach to the current situation in Afghanistan.

However, United Nations officials have consistently stated in the past week that the Taliban are the current rulers of Afghanistan and the organization will continue to engage with them.

The Third Doha meeting is scheduled to be hosted by the United Nations on June 30th of this year.

This meeting is being held at a time when the Taliban have imposed severe restrictions on women and girls in Afghanistan for the past three years.
