UN Security Council Grants Travel Exemption to Sirajuddin Haqqani
Bayan News – The UN Security Council Sanctions Committee has confirmed that the committee has granted travel exemption to Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s Interior Minister, and Abdul Haq Wasiq, the Taliban’s Intelligence Chief, to travel to Saudi Arabia.
The Security Council committee said on Thursday (June 6) that the travel exemption for these Taliban officials is for the purpose of performing Hajj rituals.
Previously, some countries, including the United States, had called on countries in the region, particularly the United Arab Emirates, to respect the UN sanctions in response to the travel of Taliban officials.
Sirajuddin Haqqani recently traveled to the United Arab Emirates along with other Taliban officials and met with the head of state of that country.
The travel of these officials to the UAE has elicited widespread reactions.
