Pakistan condemns “attack on its consulate” in Frankfurt, Germany

Bayan News – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has “strongly condemned” the attack on the country’s consulate in the city of Frankfurt, Germany, in a statement.

The statement said that the German authorities have failed to protect the sanctity and security of the country’s diplomatic premises.

Pakistan has termed the perpetrators of yesterday’s (July 20) attack on its consulate in Frankfurt, Germany, as an “extremist group”.

In the video footage that has been circulated of this incident, a group of individuals, who are carrying the flag of the former Afghan government, can be seen storming the Pakistani consulate in Frankfurt and taking down the Pakistani flag.

The primary motivation behind this incident is still unclear; however, sources have linked this event to the death of a member of the Pashtun Protection Movement in Pakistan.

The statement has referred to the 1963 Vienna Convention, stating that the responsibility of protecting and ensuring the security of diplomatic premises of countries lies with the host country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has said that the security of its consular staff was jeopardized in yesterday’s incident.

The statement reads: “We urge the German government to take immediate actions to fulfill its responsibilities under the Vienna Convention and ensure the security of Pakistan’s diplomatic representations and personnel in Germany.”

Pakistan has also demanded that the German authorities arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of the attack on its consulate in the city of Frankfurt.
