Political developments in Bangladesh have put Afghan student girls at risk
Bayan News – It has been reported that Afghan student girls studying at the “Asian University for Women” located in Bangladesh have been deeply concerned by the political-security developments in this country.
According to reports published on Tuesday (August 6), the Asian University for Women has more than five hundred Afghan student girls.
The concerns of these students intensified after protesters told them that “classes have been canceled and you should return to the dormitories.”
Since the beginning of the unrest in Bangladesh, all these girls have been staying in the dormitories and are not allowed to go out.
A source told the BBC: “These girls are like prisoners inside the dormitories, if the situation worsens, other students have their embassies and in case of need, cooperation will be provided, but Afghan students are in confusion and fear.”
The source added, “They have also emailed the university president and said they do not feel a sense of calm and security.”
Following the violent protests in Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India by helicopter, and efforts are currently underway to form an interim government.
