The Pope: The instability and internal divisions in Afghanistan have led to an increase in the exodus of the population

Bayan News – Pope Francis, the leader of the world’s Catholics, in a statement referring to the situation in Afghanistan, said that the ethnic diversity in this country has become a pretext for “discrimination and exclusion.”

The leader of the world’s Catholics made these remarks in a meeting with members of the Association of Afghans residing in Italy.

According to the Vatican news website, this religious leader added that Afghanistan has endured tragic events over the past decades, and at the same time, instability, war, internal conflicts, and violations of fundamental human rights have led to the increased exile of a large number of people.

He added in this meeting: “The ethnic diversity that characterizes Afghan society sometimes becomes a pretext for discrimination and exclusion.”

The leader of the world’s Catholics also referred to the dire situation in the border areas of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the Pashtun minority living in Pakistan.

In part of his speech, he stressed that religion should not be used as a tool to incite violence and hatred, and instead it should be used to promote brotherhood among nations.

The Pope, by stating that religion should help reduce differences, emphasized that an environment should be created where everyone can access their full citizenship rights without discrimination.

However, according to the leader of the world’s Catholics, religion is being abused and used as a tool for spreading hatred and violent conflicts.

This is one of the rare statements by the leader of the world’s Catholics that takes a stance on the situation in Afghanistan and examines the situation.
