Taliban Announces Preparations for the TAPI Project

Bayan News – The Office of the Economic Deputy of the Taliban Prime Minister has announced that the TAPI project will start in the near future in cooperation with Turkmenistan.

The Taliban Economic Deputy in a newsletter stated that this issue was discussed on Thursday (August 8) in a conversation between Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and Rashid Meredov, the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan.

The newsletter states that the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan has informed of his country’s readiness to start the TAPI project.

The Taliban Economic Deputy clarified in the newsletter that the two sides, in addition to political, economic and trade cooperation, have also discussed the implementation of the TAPI project on Afghan soil.

According to Mullah Baradar, Afghanistan has good political and economic relations with Turkmenistan, and the two sides should strive to further develop these relations.

Mullah Baradar added: “Afghanistan and Turkmenistan have common interests in various fields, and now a good opportunity has been provided to achieve them.”

Mullah Baradar stated that the Taliban government is pursuing an economy-centered foreign policy that is focused on regional connectivity, and for achieving this goal, it needs the cooperation of the region, especially Turkmenistan.

Meanwhile, the newsletter of the Taliban Prime Minister’s Economic Deputy quoted the Turkmen Foreign Minister as saying that his country is ready to start the TAPI project in the near future in order to expand political and economic relations with Afghanistan.

According to this newsletter, Meredov said that his country plans to invest in the electricity and railway network sectors in Afghanistan.

It is worth mentioning that TAPI is a joint project of Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan and India, and through this project, Turkmen gas will be transferred from Afghanistan to Pakistan and India.

According to published reports, Afghanistan will earn millions of dollars annually through these projects.
