A Female Lawyer Appointed as Political Deputy of UNAMA in Kabul

Bayan News – António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has recently appointed Georgette Gagnon as the political deputy of the UNAMA office in Kabul.

The organization stated in a press release on Tuesday (September 3) that Ms. Gagnon has worked for over 28 years in the fields of peace, human rights, and humanitarian assistance in various countries.

From 2010 to 2015, she served as the Director of Human Rights for UNAMA in Kabul.

Gagnon, a Canadian citizen, has served since 2021 as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Libya and as the Coordinator of Humanitarian Assistance in that country.

Previously, Marcus Potzel worked as the political deputy of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
