Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the head of the Afghan embassy

Bayan News – In response to the Taliban diplomatic representative’s lack of respect for the national anthem of the Islamic Republic at the Conference on Islamic Unity, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the head of the Afghan embassy on Friday (September 20).

According to Iranian media reports, the head of the foreign ministry’s department condemned this action as contrary to diplomatic norms and expressed the Islamic Republic’s strong protest regarding this matter.

This official from Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs added: “Regardless of the obvious necessity for the guest to respect the symbols of the host country, respect for national anthems is a recognized international behavior. Moreover, the action of the Afghan envoy does not align with the high objectives of participation in the Conference on Islamic Unity.”

In this meeting, the head of the Afghan embassy emphasized his country’s special respect for the Islamic Republic of Iran, stating that the mentioned action was a personal act and in no way reflects the opinion of his country.

He added that he would promptly inform Kabul about the matter.

Previously, a Taliban diplomatic representative in Peshawar did not show respect for the national anthem of Pakistan, which led to a strong protest from the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
