U.S. Department of State: Afghanistan Remains a Priority in Washington’s Foreign Policy
Bayan News – Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, stated that Afghanistan remains a priority in the foreign policy of the United States.
The spokesperson said in a press briefing on Tuesday afternoon (October 1) that issues related to Afghanistan are being managed by the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires for Afghanistan and the U.S. Special Envoy for Women and Human Rights in Afghanistan.
In response to a question from one of the journalists, he added that Afghanistan remains a priority in U.S. foreign policy.
These remarks come after Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that Tom West, the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan, would be stepping down from his position.
According to Blinken, Tom West will become the acting head of the State Department’s Office of Sanctions Coordination.
Yesterday, the Secretary of State issued a statement praising Tom West’s role over the past four years, noting that he successfully implemented U.S. policies in Afghanistan.
