Rising Israel-Iran tensions and the Taliban’s huge financial gains
Bayan News – It has been reported that following Iran’s missile attacks on Israel, the number of flights passing through Afghanistan’s airspace and paying fees to the Taliban government has increased.
The global flight tracking website “Flightradar24” announced on Sunday (October 6) that after the missile attacks by Iran, international flights have been avoiding Iranian airspace and are rerouting through Afghanistan.
It is said that with increasing concerns over possible Israeli retaliation, a large number of international flights in the Middle East and Europe have faced long delays or have chosen to fly through safer routes over the past four days.
Flightradar24 told the British newspaper The Independent that international flights passing through Afghanistan’s airspace have increased sevenfold since Hamas’ attack on Israel in October last year.
Experts also stated that if this situation continues, the Taliban government could collect approximately 50 million dollars more annually in fees.
Flight tracking organizations and websites note that after the Taliban returned to power three years ago, many airlines diverted their routes away from Afghanistan’s airspace.
Reports indicate that flights over Afghanistan are currently flying at an altitude of about 10 kilometers, which is beyond the range of many surface-to-air missiles.
