UN: 15,000 Widows Received Aid in Six Months

Bayan News – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has announced that 15,000 widows and female heads of households have received assistance this year through its programs.

On October 18, the organization stated that this aid included the distribution of chickens, food assistance, educational services, and vaccinations. The FAO wrote on platform X: “Women are key to sustainable food security in Afghanistan.”

According to the organization, women’s access to food in Afghanistan has improved.

This comes after the World Food Program (WFP) reported in its September release that 3.9 million people, including 2.8 million children under five, are suffering from acute malnutrition. Additionally, 2.4 million Afghans are struggling with severe hunger.

The report indicated that, overall, at least 23.7 million people in Afghanistan will need immediate assistance this year. The UN also recently reported that many people in Afghanistan do not know how they will obtain their next meal.
