Media Support Organizations Call for an End to the Arrest of Afghan Journalists
Bayan News – The International Federation of Journalists and the National Union of Journalists have called on the Taliban to stop the arrest of journalists and media workers in Afghanistan.
Yesterday (October 19), these organizations issued a statement expressing deep concern over the targeting and arrest of journalists in Afghanistan.
According to the federation, Mahdi Ansari, a journalist from AfghanNews, was arrested on October 5 in the Dashte Barchi area of Kabul. The reason for his arrest remains unknown, and his current whereabouts are also unclear.
The organization stated that despite the efforts of Ansari’s family, there has been no news of his fate.
The International Federation of Journalists has said that journalists in Afghanistan continue to face arbitrary arrests and restrictive legal conditions.
International organizations supporting journalists have expressed solidarity with Afghan journalists both inside and outside the country and have called on the international community to increase its support for Afghan journalists.
These concerns over the arbitrary arrests of journalists come as the Taliban have recently decided to halt broadcasts of state-run television stations.
As a result of this decision, several local television stations have stopped their broadcasts.
