A Taliban delegation traveled to Iran for talks on “railway” cooperation
Bayan News – The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works announced the visit of a delegation from the ministry to Iran for discussions on expanding railway cooperation.
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, the ministry’s spokesperson, wrote on the X platform on Saturday (November 16) that the delegation is led by Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada, the deputy minister of public works.
The spokesperson stated that the delegation will hold discussions with officials from the Islamic Republic of Iran Railway Authority regarding increasing freight transport through the Khaf-Herat railway and strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The spokesperson added that freight transport via the Khaf-Herat railway is already ongoing, and some sections of the railway are still under construction.
The Khaf-Herat railway, stretching 226 kilometers, connects Afghanistan to Iran’s railway network. Of this, 77 kilometers are in Iran and 149 kilometers are in Afghanistan.
