Iranian Official: Providing SIM Cards and Banking Services to Afghan Migrants is a Crime
Bayan News – Dawood Moazami Goudarzi, a senior police official in Tehran, has stated that providing SIM cards and bank accounts to Afghan migrants is a crime and will result in severe penalties.
In a press conference on Sunday (November 17), the Tehran police official added that some Iranian citizens are unaware of the legal repercussions of transferring SIM cards and bank accounts to migrants.
He warned that any crimes committed using these accounts and SIM cards will result in the Iranian citizen who facilitated the transfer being held responsible.
The official further clarified that some citizens, either intentionally or unintentionally, register their bank cards or mobile phone SIM cards under their own names and provide them to migrants who lack residency documents.
He described renting out SIM cards, bank accounts, and cryptocurrency exchange accounts to Afghan migrants as a serious crime, claiming that many cybercrimes have been registered in the past involving these accounts.
The head of Tehran’s Cyber Police added that recently there has been an increase in the “black market” for providing SIM cards and bank accounts to migrants.
He pointed out that some of these black market traders register SIM cards using the details and identities of others and then hand them over to migrants.
Afghan migrants, especially those without residency documents in Iran, face many difficulties when trying to obtain a phone SIM card.
